This is the blog of The Matt(tm), if you want a backstory just ask. All posts are open to public consumption and if you read something you don't like here, tough luck. You have been warned.

So like half of Raleigh, all last week I was stupidly sick. This past weekend I was so sickly I didn't even get out to go see MC Chris who was in town for two shows. I'm such a bad fan. :( He's hopefully going to get signed by a 'big record label' and going to become a household name while maintaining his integrity and his soul! Either way, he has a new album coming out later this year an I will be sure to pay cold hard cash for it it because he is surely one person I appreciate his work so much I am willing to chuck cash out for it.

Speaking of cold hard cash for uber sounds!!!!

HuG released their new album on the 5th and no one told me, so I am correcting this as soon as possible by already ordering it online. It should be here first thing next week. I was introduced to their sound late last year when they did a show in Raleigh and I have been addicted ever since. One bad thing I heard about the new album though, is that it will raise your electric bill, blow out your sound system, and melt your alternator in your car because you cannot play it loud enough no matter how hard you try!!!!! I will be putting up a full review after I give the album a few listens.

So what's a sick person to do? Watch some film of course! On Friday it was out to the Colony to catch Southland Tales while it was still in the theaters. This piece of work is by the same guy who did Donnie Darko which you may remember. This film will become a cult classic, no doubt, but is quite an acquired taste. Even though there was only twenty or so people in the theater... half of them had left about an hour in. There is a lot going on, a lot of things to take in, and it is very easy to get lost. I really want to see it again. If you enjoy outlandish tales of opressive goverments, time travel, pimps, cops, porn stars, and amnesia then I highly suggest it. How they got the budget for this thing though... I will never know.

The other film I caught this weekend was Persepolis. This is a film adaptation of a graphic novel, which I also just ordered along with 2012, which tells an interesting story of an Iranian girl who grew up in the 70s and 80s. It's a story of war, loss, love, family, travel, struggle, redemption, opressive governements, and the power of one's self.

I highly highly suggest this to everyone. It was an excellent, excellent film. Don't believe me? Check it out on rotten tomatoes!

So since I moved to Cary with Aubrey, I lost the use of my little gym that came with the apartment complex, and I stopped doing TKD over a year ago. So since September, come January 1st I had gained 10 lbs and hated myself for it. I don't exercise nearly enough, and I didn't really have a structured way of doing it by myself. A buddy of mine Rick was doing the whole 'get in shape' bit and went and got some testing done at this place called Lifetime fitness over in Regency Park which is right by where he works. It also just happens to be about five minutes away from me, so I wandered in for a tour three weeks ago, and I signed up then and there. The facilities are top notch, the staff seems friendly and the like, and best of all competent. Now the place is $60 a month, which is nothing to sneeze at, but they have all the equipment you could want, full pools, organized group fitness, rock wall, personal trainers, a salon, cafe... everything I could want in a gym for only $6 more a month than what I was paying for TKD. I'm easing back into working out, and right now am sticking to cardio till I get used to 'going back to the gym'. I am doing a cycling class 2-3 times a week, and I plan on seeing a personal trainer and setting up a decent work out schedule to help re-program my metabolism. Hopefully within six months I'll get back down to my 180 goal, but for now I want to get back down to 190 as I am up to 201 as of this morning.

Before I had drive but no platform to achieve what I wanted. Now I have both. I will become.

If anyone is interested in knowing more about the facility or if you just want to go take a wander around/free trip to the pool/sauna/hot tub, let me know. I went in on an open house weekend and was able to score a few more free VIP passes *cough*getyourfriendstojoinaswell*cough* so I have a few to spread around for you to use. Just let me know. With them I think you get a temp ID and you can use the whole facility as if you were a regular member.

Got to hang out with Alice today before she runs off away again for pretty much the entire month of March. Her and Kyle are doing super great and things are working out decently with her work and the like. <3 to the Alice! Great to see you and to bake with you again!

This week is a busy busy week! More gym, DnD this weekend, hopefully dinner this sunday with Sydney and a awesome new show in discovery about the human body that looks totally awesome. Keep it real peeps!

Awesome. I had contemplating joining many times, but find I like working out at home the best....you know, when I actually do it! :)

I find if I set a schedule and stick to it, I do best.

The group activities also make it a lot easier as I am, sadly, in better shape than about 60% of the people there already if not 70% but there are also those top 5% people who look like they could be professional.

It's a blend of these people that hopefully will keep me motivated to be better than average, and striving for excellence!
